India: A Pound of Flesh on FRONTLINE/World
This past March I went to India to investigate the black market trade in human kidneys. I had been reading about the story for months but it was pretty shocking to actually go to India and see scores of women with telltale scars peeking out from under their sari’s from where they’d had their kidney removed. I met several people who’d sold a kidney, a broker who arranges the deals, the doctors who do the surgeries, and some of the government officials who are supposed to stop the trade. I put together an 11-minute mini-documentary about the story and I’m thrilled to say it was picked up by the PBS show FRONTLINE/World as part of their online Rough Cut series.
