Now Leaving Colorado City: Life After Polygamy

Steve, Fawn, and Enos were all born and raised inside the extremely private and extremely religious polygamous cult known as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. All under the age of 23, these young people are part of a larger community more than a thousand strong, commonly referred to as “The Lost Boys,” who were forced out of the insular world they’d been raised in to start a new life in the big city of Salt Lake. Through intimate conversations, family photos, and an emotional return trip to Colorado City, this documentary explores the origins of the FLDS church, the current state of life in the twin cities, and what leaving the cult means for the young people who’ve now formed an outside community of their own. Now Leaving Colorado City is an up-close portrait of three young people in the months following their escape from Warren Jeffs’ infamous Cult. Two young “Lost Boys,” who were cast out from the cult, find community and friendship with one another and also with a young girl who miraculously managed to escape her scheduled marriage to a man decades her senior. With the help of some former FLDS church members who’ve left the faith, these young people share what it feels like to try and reconcile a challenging religious past with a bright and hopeful future.
